Disaster Survival For Normal People

Disaster Survival For Normal People

Remember years back when the people who stashed food and equipment were considered weird and sort of laughed at a little?

Well, the world has changed and we have learned that everyone needs to be better prepared.

If hurricane Katrina, typhoon Haiyan and other disasters taught us anything it’s that, at least in the beginning, we should not rely solely on the government to be there immediately to help us after or during a disaster. Self reliance is a great thing.

Natural disasters can make roads impassable and cut the supply chain that us urban dwellers rely on to bring us our food and water. And that’s not the only thing that could happen.

What Can You Do?

If you haven’t already, you need to get prepared and learn how you can survive a disaster. You need to create an emergency food and water supply in case there is a disaster where you need to hunker down and wait out the initial impact.

You need to have emergency packs in each of your vehicles in case you need to evacuate an area.

How Can You Be Prepared

It’s not as hard as it seems. You can take things step by step and become better prepared. You don’t have to go out and buy hundreds of dollars of freeze dried foods or MRE’s.

Step by step you can make sure that you are better prepared and ready to take care of yourself and your family in case of a disaster whether it is a natural one or man-made.

Start Today

But what you do need to do is start today. Sit down and research material to help you create a plan for how you will become better prepared. An emergency plan is the first step. You need to think about things like how you and your family will get back together in case of an emergency.

You should decide how much food and water you should have stored and where you will store it.

Become familiar with evacuation routes to get you out of the city and decide where you will head. But most of all, just start to think about what you can do to be more prepared.
