5 Upcoming Disasters That Will Take America By Storm

5 Upcoming Disasters That Will Take America By Storm

Every year the world’s foundations are shaken by natural disasters. Whether we’re talking about hurricanes, floods, droughts, tornadoes, forest fires etc., it’s vital to know in advance and to be prepared. Being caught off guard might be the difference between surviving and not. Recent scientific studies have confirmed some upcoming natural disasters for the whole spam of the 21st century in the US (in both the near and distant future). Here are 5 of the most important calamities to be aware of.

The Wildfires

Harvard’s School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) finest have concluded their research in the field with a grim prediction: by 2050, natural wildfires will become even more dangerous! Wildfires are bound to last 3 weeks longer compared to today’s rate, will release twice the amount of smoke and will engulf a large portion of West coast per each passing year. In the last 15 years, the territorial range afflicted by wildfires has grown from 2.2 million acres (starting 2000) to 6.5 million acres annually. According to Dr. Loretta J. Mickley (senior researcher in atmospheric chemistry – SEAS), the root of “all evil” regarding wildfires is gradual climate change. The climate changes have raised the Earth’s temperature, creating optimal conditions for out-of-control wildfires. The greater the temperature, the graver the danger. It’s been predicted that the range of forest fires will vary between 30,000 to 50,000 per year. This one is close to home as 4 of my friends lost their homes in 1 wildfire in California last summer. It’s a reality.

The Earthquake-Tsunami Effect In Oregon

The Oregon Seismic Safety Policy Advisor Commission has conducted various experiments throughout 2009-2010. The scientists and volunteers involved in the project have determined through scientific research and calculus that at some point in the next 50 years, an earthquake of 8.0-9.0 Richter magnitude will hit the coast of Oregon, that’s soon to be followed by a tsunami. The exact date hasn’t been determined yet, the all the measurements seem to point to the inevitable disaster. The predictions seem to estimate that there will be around 10.000 dead and if portions of the West Cost get split from the main land, estimated damages can go up to $32 billion!

The source of the unforgiving earthquake-tsunami combo is considered to be the Cascadia subduction zone, an 800 mile crack in the Earth’s crust 60 miles offshore from Oregon, created by the Juan de Fuca and the North American tectonic plates.

The Submersion Of The East Coast

NASA’s scientific research program have suggested that wind activity and sea level trends are bound to leave a great portion of the East Coast underwater by 2100. John Boon, an emeritus professor of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science has shown that sea level has constantly been increasing by 0.3 millimeters per year ever since 1987. This will gravely affect the East Coast from Key West (Florida) to Newfoundland (Canada). A group of scientists from Florida that recently ran a US Geological Survey confirmed that East Coast sea levels are rising up to 4 times faster than usual.

In 2013, the ex-mayor of New York (Michael Bloomberg) proposed a $20 billion flood system before leaving office, but the proposal was refused. His intention was based on studies that showed that the north-western coastline is mostly at risk. The sea level in the New York City area is expected to rise 31 inches by 2050. In the present 25% of New York is exposed to a watery calamity, but by 2050, it might be around 95%.

The “Big One” Earthquake In California

earthquake Californians have been holding their breaths, waiting for that one serious earthquake for decades. And they will get it, sooner or later. The USGS division, UCERF3 (Third Uniform California Rupture Forecast) stated that an 8.0 Richter magnitude earthquake or above is bound to hit the West Coast sometime in the next 30 years. The chances of smaller quakes (6.5 – 7.0 Richter magnitude) are as high as 30%! There are differences of opinion as to where the “Big One” will originate exactly. Some scientists believe that the shockwave will commence from the breaking of the San Andreas Fault, while others consider the point of origin to be the Hayward Fault (near San Francisco).

Regardless the point of origin, the effects will be more than devastating. A group of scientists created a computer simulation of the outcome. The shockwaves will travel at speeds of approximately         7,200 mph, reducing highways and main roads unusable instantly. The White House is currently funding the Earthquake Early Warning System that is able to pick up seismic activity and give pertinent warning one minute in advance of an actual earthquake. $5million have been invested so far, but the alert goes off only 10 seconds before the shockwaves hit, which is nowhere near enough.

The Solar Storms

Solar storms are the worst natural disasters that can hit us in the near or distant future. There’s no running from them, there is no escape.

It’s important to understand that the Sun’s activity is cyclical, inconstant and ever-changing. The cycle consists in alternating the periods of low nuclear activity with periods of full energy outburst.

Such outbursts result in spewing CMEs (coronal mass ejections). These are massive clouds of magnetized plasma that acts as an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) on all human-made electronics. The circuits get burned instantly, rending useless everything that’s electrical. Such solar storms also contain high level of radiation (mostly UV), solar flares and more. In 2012 a solar flare hit the space station TEREO-A, but it came dangerously close to hitting the Earth instead.

Pete Riley, a scientist for Predictive Science Inc. analyzed the solar storm phenomena recorded in the last 50 years and concluded that there is a 12% chance of the Earth actually getting hit by a solar storm by 2030. When this happens, it will firstly disrupt radio signals, GPS coordination units, and satellite communications. Next, it will disable power grids, as the alien energetic particles causing the breakdown will ultimately be responsible for the ultimate worldwide blackout! The costs of the ordeal are estimated at $2.5 trillion and a full recovery (if possible) will take longer than 15 years.

No matter what’s in store for us, we can’t avoid it. Be prepared for what’s to come, take all the precautions needed and in case of calamity, make sure you are fully stock. Because in the end, it might come down to pure survival.

Artificial Intelligence Take-over: Truth Or Myth?

Artificial Intelligence Take-over: Truth Or Myth?

Though the idea of an Artificial Intelligence world domination may have a cartoonish status in our survivalist community, unfortunately, the concept is closer to the truth than you might think. I don’t need to point out the obvious: the signs are all around us, from the self-driving car developed by Google to 3d-printed bionic limbs and organs, and if Nobel-prize winner theoretician and physicist Stephen Hawking himself fears an impending machine attack, then the red button has been pressed as far as I am concerned.

If Stephen Hawking, the multi-awarded scientist considered the smartest physicist on the planet thinks seriously about this, so do I, and so should you. Unlike the case of a war or a hurricane, the problem with a war of the machines is that it can happen overnight in just one instant, thwarting any chance of preparing whatsoever.

What Exactly Is An AI-attack?

The Terminator, the Lawnmower Man, and many other flicks, books, and cultural elements have long since proposed the idea of a world taken over by AI. If you look at sci-fi movies you can notice that ever since the 60s, the ideas imagined back then have more or less came true. This means that the human mind can anticipate how to the world will evolve 50 to 100 years time in the future.

In a recent interview, Stephen Hawking talked about the new technology used to power his device that helps him communicate. The technology uses his previously used words in order to predict what he will say next, not unlike the similar technology on smartphones. It’s this very technology that Mr. Hawking is concerned about, as it may very well surpass human intelligence.

“Once humans develop artificial intelligence, it would take off on its own and re-design itself at an ever-increasing rate,” he told the BBC.

“The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race.”

The idea is not new, as the British scientist and grandfather of modern computers Alan Turing was wondering in the 1950s: “Can machines think”, however, the concern is.

Artificial Intelligence

Much like in the sci-fi movies, the artificial intelligence becomes so intelligent that it ultimately develops a conscience of its own. The concerns are all the more real as we ask ourselves: what exactly determines conscience? And the scientific answers are so downright simple, it is truly alarming: a sum of electrical impulses in our brains.

This idea of tech singularity (one super intelligent machine over-mind) was theorized by none other than Ray Solomonoff in 1967:

“Although there is no prospect of very intelligent machines in the near future, the dangers posed are very serious and the problems very difficult. It would be well if a large number of intelligent humans devote a lot of thought to these problems before they arise.

It is my feeling that the realization of artificial intelligence will be a sudden occurrence. At a certain point in the development of the research we will have had no practical experience with machine intelligence of any serious level: a month or so later, we will have a very intelligent machine and all the problems and dangers associated with our inexperience.”

Artificial Intelligence But probably the most alarming factor of concern in this direction is that IT evolution is growing at an ever-accelerating pace. From the internet to phones and computers, the new generation machines already take several months to be developed. If everything grows at an exponential rate, it isn’t difficult to imagine where will it all go in a decade: a world ruled by computers; and are there so many paces left to the state where machines develop conscience?

Machines Already Took Over

The way for a possible conquest of the machines has already been paved, as society is welcoming them more and more into our lives. More and more functions are being done by machines instead of humans, from simple ticket vending machines to transport systems, air traffic control, and nuclear warfare. It’s a known fact that the stock market downfall in 1987 was caused by computer transactions. Imagine what would happen to the world economy if the internet would simply cease to exist tomorrow. All the financial crisis in history combined wouldn’t match the real consequences of such a financial disaster. The brutal truth is that we already live in a world controlled by machines one way or another, except they are not sentient. Think about what would happen if they become so!

Spell checker software exists on every computer in every home, and it is a very basic program, yet it is able to speak our language better than us. Language invented by humans, perfected by your computer.

However, this nightmare scenario, though it can occur anytime without warning, is not necessary for a small scale machine apocalypse to happen. Imagine a world completely sustained by non-sentient machines. What happens should a major bug occur? Transport systems blocked, security door blocked – people trapped inside buildings, elevators, trains, and most importantly, credit system collapse. Without money we cannot pay for food and paper money becomes more and more obsolete. In such a scenario, chaos ensues, and we must be prepared. But how?

What Are The Solutions?

terminator Until the few scientists concerned with this issue get the governments mobilized (if they do, that is), you need to be prepared. Rely on machines as little as possible.

If machines develop conscience overnight, a zombie apocalypse scenario would seem like a child’s play. Machines are metal and circuit giants which cannot be stopped by bullets, no matter how well prepared you are. The best solution is to make your own EMP generating device.

What Is EMP?

EMP stands for electromagnetic pulse, and it’s basically a burst shot of electromagnetic energy. This energy has the ability to partially or completely damage or temporarily disrupt the functions of electronic equipment of any type. Given the right proportions, an electromagnetic pulse can disrupt any device with electric circuits, from a cell phone to an atomic bomb.

How To Make Your Own EMP Generator

If you are familiar with EMP guns, you are probably thinking of big generators and atomic bombs. But the principle applies at any scale. You don’t need to build a complex circuit to be able to have an EMP gun for close quarters use. Actually, the circuit is already built and you can find it for less than $5 at any store: a disposable camera.

camera

You will also need:

• an insulated copper wire (the thicker, the more powerful the pulse)
• a metal rod (preferably iron for better efficiency)

metal rod copper wire

Instructions:

Wrap the wire TIGHTLY around the rod. The wire should be sticking out on both ends after you are done.

Take the battery out of the camera

Take out the taser from the camera and solder the capacitor to the ends of the wire. Make sure it is shorted.

To test the device, do so with a pocket calculator. Take it somewhere far from any other electronic device, preferably outside in the backyard. Leave any electronic object out of your pockets; remove your wristwatch if you have one. pocket calculatorThe EMP gun you just built should have a several feet range. Put the battery in and push the switch while holding it close to the calculator. It should render it unusable right away.

Always Keep Prepared!

Keep your appliances sharp, but your wits sharper! Just because society evolves in a direction that tends to remove the humanity in its individuals bit by bit, doesn’t mean that individuals will turn into machines, or worse, be ruled by them. Stay prepared!

“Super EMP” Capable Of Disabling Power Grid Across Lower 48 States

“Super EMP” Capable of Disabling Power Grid Across Lower 48 States

For many years U.S. Intelligence agencies believed that North Korea’s nuclear weapons program was a failure due to the low explosive yield of their tests. According to EMPact America’s President and former CIA nuclear weapons analyst Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, this is not the case:

North Korea’s last round of tests, conducted in May 2009, appear to have included a “super-EMP” weapon, capable of emitting enough gamma rays to disable the electric power grid across most of the lower 48 states, says Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, a former CIA nuclear weapons analyst and president of EMPact America, a citizens lobbying group.

North Korea’s nuclear tests have been dismissed as failures by some analysts because of their low explosive yield. But Dr. Pry believes they bore the “signature” of the Russian-designed “super-EMP” weapon, capable of emitting more gamma radiation than a 25-megaton nuclear weapon.

Pry believes the U.S. intelligence community was expecting North Korea to test a first generation implosion device with an explosive yield of 10 to 20 kilotons, similar to the bomb the U.S. exploded over Nagasaki in 1945. He said, “So when they saw one that put off just three kilotons, they said it failed. That is so implausible.”

Since EMP is a line-of-sight weapon, detonating one of these nukes about 300 miles above Nebraska could end life as we know it in America in about one second.

While North Korea may be the latest country to test such a weapon, it is clear that the technology has been available for nearly 50 years, and it has since been leaked to rogue nations, and perhaps rogue terror and shadow elements with the financing, capability, and wherewithal to use it:

Such a weapon — equal to a massive solar flare such as the “solar maxima” predicted by NASA to occur in 2016 — poses “substantial risk to equipment and operation of the nation’s power grid and under extreme conditions could result in major long-term electrical outages,” said Joseph McClelland of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Senate testimony last month.

Pry said that a group of Russian nuclear weapons scientists approached him in 2004 when he served as staff director of the Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Attack, to warn the United States that the technology to make that weapon “had leaked” to North Korea, and possibly to Iran.

When we talk about potential terrorist action against the United States, we discuss this in the sphere of any organization, be it Al Queda, state-sponsored, or shadow government related. These weapons exist, and they are, without a doubt, the single biggest threat to the United States of America.

As we’ve previously reported, such a weapon, or group of weapons strategically detonated at lower altitudes, would completely wipe out the entire US power grid, vehicles, computers, cell phones, and anything else with an electric circuit.

The fall out would be nothing short of apocalyptic.

In July of 2010 EMPact America published an overview of the EMP 2010 Conference in which they discussed the threat EMP posed to the nation and the fact that very few people understand how great and imminent it is:

…An electromagnetic pulse, or EMP, is a super energetic radio wave that’s immediately harmless to people, but it’ll burn out all the critical electronic systems that sustain human economic activity and human life across vast areas, including the entire continental United States.

– Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, President, EMPact America

The Center for Security Policy, in a report issued last year, has estimated that in the event of a wide-scale EMP attack on the United States, as many as nine out of ten Americans would be dead within one year:

“Within a year of that attack, nine out of 10 Americans would be dead, because we can’t support a population of the present size in urban centers and the like without electricity,” said Frank Gaffney, president of the Center for Security Policy. “And that is exactly what I believe the Iranians are working towards.”

It doesn’t matter who it is. What does matter is that very few Americans are prepared for such an outlier.

The first 24 – 48 hours after such an occurrence will lead to confusion among the general population as traditional news acquisition sources like television, radio and cell phone networks will be non-functional.

Within a matter of days, once people realize the power might not be coming back on and grocery store shelves start emptying, the entire system will begin to delve into chaos.

Within 30 days a mass die off will have begun as food supplies dwindle, looters and gangs turn to violent extremes, medicine can’t be restocked and water pump stations fail.

Power outages happen all the time. But you’ll know an EMP has been detonated (or we’ve been hit by a massive solar event) if the power to your house goes off, cars are not starting, and your cell phone won’t turn on. If that happens, take a deep breath, say a prayer, and put the supplies and knowledge you’ve acquired to work, because it won’t be long before the golden horde wrecks havoc.
