Keep Breathing: Some Of The Best Gas Masks You Can Afford

Keep Breathing: Some Of The Best Gas Masks You Can Afford

We’re all aware of what a gas mask is; at least we have some idea about them. Gas masks (aka. respirators) are heavily used in society. The Police force has them, the Special Forces have them, the firefighters have them, spray painters have them etc. The basic use of a gas mask is to serve as filter for the air you’re breathing in and to stop possible irritants and noxious substances from getting into your respiratory system and affecting you general state your health.

The best gas masks (or respirators) are based on the same principle: the air is pulled into the canister that has a filtering system (on 3 layers: aerosol filter, charcoal filter and dust filter) and then is released towards the interior of the mask; the filtered air is safe to breathe.

The air is sucked into the canister as the wearer breathes. There are also battery operated gas masks, equipped with a fan, that will syphon air inside, but become useless when the batteries die out. There are also some that work just like a scuba breathing system: they don’t have a filtering canister, but a pressurized air canister, that is completely sealed.

A gas mask is a real asset for any serious prepper. It’s an absolute must-have in case of a chemical or biological attack. Works just as well in a combat zone, as it’ll filter out heavy smoke and even dust clouds. There two main types of masks: half masks and full mask. I half mask will cover your mouth and nose only; they’re used in spray painting and are recommended only if you know what contaminant you’re dealing with. In case of an extremely dangerous contaminant or if you simply don’t know what you’re facing, a full gas mask is the way to go. Not only will it cover your respiratory system, but I’ll also protect your eyes and face from dangerous agents, like Anthrax etc.

Israeli Civilian Gas Mask

This gas mask was issued by the Israeli government, is NATO approved and it’s perfect if you consider the quality / price ratio (it costs about $80). Because of the relatively low price and good features, it’s regarded to be as the standard gas mask for civilian protection. It’s best used in an evacuation scenario from a contaminated area. The mask itself is made out of a soft but durable rubber that covers the whole face (full mask); it offers great protection not only for the respiratory system, but also for the entire face. It has extremely efficient filters (NBC filters) that will keep you safe from almost everything, from nuclear and biological agents (like Anthrax) to chemical agents. This particular gas mask comes in both adult and child versions.

M61 Finnish Gas Mask

The MA61 model was developed in Finland and it’s meant to be used as a heavy-duty gas mask. It’s a side-mounted mask, which means the filter is screwed into the side of the mask, rather than in the font. The rubber it’s made from is extremely durable, but rather soft flexible at the same time. Its flexibility means that the mask will incase the face of the wearer perfectly, making it airtight, so that noxious fumes or chemical agents won’t find their way inside. It uses a twin goggle system rather than a single visor. The exhalation system has a plastic valve with an integrated speech diaphragm, for better communication.

The 1000 CBA-RCA mask is 100% American and it was developed based on a US Military design that was used by the USAF during the Operation Desert Storm. It has a Hycar face piece which is about 40% lighter than most full gas masks and also a customizable fit. There’s also a standard nose cup to eliminate visor fogging and a mechanical speaking diaphragm. The visor is a one piece that’s extremely tough and offers great field of vision. The canister can be mounted on both the left and the right side and it’s effective against all sorts of biological and chemical agents, like Mustard, Lewisite, GA, GB, GD etc. The head harness is adjustable and stable. There’s also an ID tag attached and it includes a CBA-RCA canister. The whole package comes at about $300.

There are plenty of models that are available on the market, it’s only a matter of personal choice. The price of a certain gas mask does not necessarily reflect its quality, so you don’t have to spend a lot of money for a good product that will filter well and fit great. But you’ll need to educate yourself in the matter a bit so you won’t throw your money out the window. Luckily there’s many manufacturer’s and sellers and price ranges vary from one to the other. So keep hunting for bargains, you’ll most likely find them.

The Untold Truths About Vaccines And Why Pharmaceutical Companies Can’t Be Trusted

The Untold Truths About Vaccines

Vaccination has become a real issue lately, not only in the US, but worldwide. The controversy is far from being over, as people seem to be separated into two sides when it comes to vaccination: those who approve of vaccines and those who oppose them. As a parent, choosing a side is a great responsibility, because in this clash, only one side can be ultimately right. And the overall wellbeing of your children will depend on your choice.  The first advocates for vaccination you’ll come across will be your local pediatrician, but don’t let yourself persuaded that easily. He’ll have nothing else in mind than your kid’s health, no doubt about that, but keep in mind that he’s the result of a medical system that has proven to be flawed before. And more so, the vaccination standards and regulations are all directed by the AMA (the American Medical Association). The obvious question is whose best interest does the AMA hold: that of our children, or that of the pharmaceutical corporations (whose only purpose is financial profit)?

Shocking facts about vaccination that you should know

Throughout modern history, there have been several issues with many vaccines on the market. Those who claim otherwise are simply ignorant or ill-intentioned. RotaShield (the Rotavirus vaccine) falls into this category. It was removed from the market in late 1999, when it was demonstrated that there are links between bowel malfunction (obstruction, chaotic bowel twisting) and the vaccine itself. It was a great deal at the time, and the case is real as you clearly see for yourself here. The vaccine that followed (RotaTeq) was supposedly the new and improved version of the RotaShield vaccine. Although it doesn’t appear to be as destructive as its predecessor, it too seems to be causing bowel afflictions; you might find it hard to believe, but RotaTeq is still available on the market. Another famous and controversial case of vaccine malfunction has been recorded in February 2002, when GlaxoSmithKline (a preventive vaccine for Lyme Disease) has been withdrawn from the market. The manufacturer claimed poor sales, but the truth of the matter was that compelling evidence pointed out that the vaccine itself was responsible for worse cases of arthritis than the disease itself. You can read all about the untold truths about vaccines in this full report here.

In 2011, the I.O.M. (the Institute of Medicine), has submitted a report for further proof that certain vaccines can cause undeniable side effects. They’re studies have shown that the Chickenpox Vaccine can afflict children with immunodeficiency (but not only) with hepatitis, meningitis, encephalitis or pneumonia. The Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) Vaccine favors encephalitis, febrile seizures and Arthralgia (Short-term joint pain) in women and children. The HPV vaccine seems to be the cause of anaphylaxis in yeast-sensitive females and as overall side-effects, all vaccines can cause syncopes (fainting) or arm inflammation.

Dangerous chemicals and compounds found in vaccines

When it comes to purchasing processed food or sodas or whatever else intended for human consumption, the first thing you should do is to not focus the price of the product, but on the ingredients section. A vaccine is no different. You should be very aware before administering such a drug to your child. Most vaccines (if not all) that are on the market contain many substances and chemicals that can be extremely harmful to a human being. These potentially harmful components and their terrible side-effects are not given the proper attention and respect, mainly because of the marketing policies that the pharmaceutical moguls impose. Here’s a list of some commonly found chemicals in vaccines:

  • Formaldehyde is a carcinogenic fluid (used primarily in embalming corpses) that can cause respiratory distress, liver damage, reproductive deformation, gastrointestinal problems and various forms of cancer. Another flaw of this chemical is that it can neutralize the virus in the vaccine, which will make the vaccine completely useless
  • Thimerosal is basically mercury. Every vaccine contains about 25 mcg of Thimerosal, and according to the EPA the safe limit for humans is about 5 mcg. It’s very neurotoxic and it’s been linked to autism
  • Aluminum phosphate it’s dangerous because it reacts to mercury and it increases its toxicity. Considering that every vaccine already contains about 25 mcg of mercury, the recommended dosage is exceeded from the go
  • Sodium chloride inhibits growth, prevents normal muscle contraction and affects the circulatory system
  • Monosodium glutamate (MSG) when injected, it becomes chemical unstable and turns into a neurotoxin; it’s been linked to brain damage in children and CNS (central nervous system) disorders
  • Phenoxyethanol can disrupt the central nervous system and can gravely affect the liver or kidneys
  • Glycerin is known for causing gastrointestinal damage, lung damage, liver and kidney shutdown
  • Bovine cow serum causes chest pain, low blood pressure, lupus, arthritis and can damage connective tissue

These are only some of the most damaging chemicals used in vaccine. The list is much longer, be sure of that.

So before considering vaccination (for yourself or your family), do some research first. Listen to both sides and make up your mind whether the shot is worth it or not. At the end of the day, the damage cause by the “cure” can be far greater than that of the affliction you’re trying to prevent. Stay safe, stay informed and don’t be fooled by advertisements.

Top 3 Forms Of Martial Arts To Learn For Your Personal Protection

Top 3 Forms Of Martial Arts To Learn For Your Personal Protection

You can benefit greatly from studying martial arts. And no, it’s not meant for kids only: If you’re serious about it, you can start out as old as you like and still end up being good at it. Martial arts can be more than learning combat moves for self defense: they’re great physical exercise, great self-discipline training, each form has its own philosophy and spiritual practice behind it (which you can study along with the moves) and great fun. But for those of you who are planning on getting their money’s worth, you can ultimately become an expert.

You might find yourself during your lifetime in certain situations from which you could easily escape unharmed if you have the proper training. Learning a fighting style could be very useful as a self-defense method: against attackers, muggers, perpetrators etc. If you’re trained well enough you could easily disarm assailants or even take on more than one at a time. There have been many fighting styles and techniques developed throughout history in various parts of the world. There are also many combinations of fighting styles available (mixed martial arts), for people who want to get the best of ALL worlds. It’s a matter of choice; let’s see what are the most popular at the moment and maybe you’ll find the one that suits you best.

Krav Maga

This it may come as a surprise, but it’s Israel’s very own fighting style. It was developed (mostly) by Imi Lichtenfeld during the 1930s. The style itself is very direct, meant to counter holds and incapacitations of every sort. Because it’s full contact and it gives advantage against almost any type of attack, it’s excellent for street survival, and not only. It’s a mixed style, comprised of elements which are basic to other fighting techniques like Karate, Jiu-Jitsu throws and grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ground fighting, Wing Chun burst of hands and even Greco-Roman wrestling. Its dynamics consist in the fact that it allows the practitioner to a attack and defend at the same time, in a single movement of the body.  In most martial arts styles the tendency is to block and immediately respond with a counter blow. Things are different in Krav Maga, we’re you’re suppose to block and deliver the attack at the same time: you could (for example) block an attack with you right arm and at the same time strike with the other arm or the legs. The strikes delivered and promoted by Krav Maga are vicious, meant to incapacitate and hurt as much as possible. You learn to go for the most exposed body part, like the throat, eyes, groin or the liver. It also teaches a lot of techniques for disarming your opponents, no matter if they bare sticks, knives or guns. The style is very efficient, it develops hand-eye coordination and it takes no longer then 5 months to learn.

This is a very distinct fighting style, which has been promoted a great deal in pop culture by Steven Seagal. Don’t let Seagal’s reputation as an actor throw you off: he is probably the leading authority in the field when it comes to Aikido, having studied most of his youth years in Japan, with the greatest masters. He’s a legit 7 degree black belt who not only mastered the style, but also developed it: the kote gaeshi (Seagal’s signature move) or “forearm return” is a prolific move, essential to all survival fighters, no matter the style or technique.

This style uniqueness consists in its approach to direct fighting: Aikido teaches almost no direct blows whatsoever, it mostly teaches you how to counter everything that can be thrown at you. Its philosophy is based on the idea that an attacking opponent always leaves himself vulnerable. What you need to do is exploit that vulnerability and use your enemy’s momentum against him. For example, a straight punch could simply be countered by side-stepping and grabbing the opponents wrist or arm. You can simply pivot and throw him down if you grab the arm, or if the wrist is involved, simply twist it towards the outside. The momentum will help you break the wrist with almost no effort from your part, incapacitating your attacker immediately. This style requires awareness rather than speed or strength. If you keep your cool and your eyes opened, as an Aikido practitioner, you’ll have no trouble breaking the joints and wrists of your attackers.

Muay Thai Kickboxing

The fighting style was originally developed in Thailand, in the 19th century, and it translates to “the art of the 8 limbs”. It’s a contact fighting style, based on a large variety of punches, elbows and kicks. It’s philosophy consists in the fact that someone who is using a tool for fighting is limited by that one tool. A muay thai practitioner, on the other hand, has many such tools (punches, kicks, elbows), therefore has the advantage. It’s not a fancy style, but rather an effective one. It’s based on lighting speed, precision and power, and can exploit even the slightest opening in your adversary’s defense. The best way to counter a weapon attack (as long as you not held at gun point) is to approach the attacker as forward as possible. Simply aim for the jaw, throat or liver and kick it as hard as possible.

With enough technique and training, your legs and punches could easily crack bones and inflict serious pain. Kickboxing requires some serious physical training, as its practitioners do a little something called combat qi. It’s basically subjecting your body parts to repeated hits and damage, until the “hardened” body part no longer hurts as it used to. This practice is mostly used to harden the shin bone; kick boxers hit hard surfaces for 2 hours-a-day, 2 years straight.

There are many other fighting styles available, but these are my personal favorites and possibly the most useful in a combat scenario. But if you have to take one thing away from martial arts, that’s discipline and self control. Do not get carried away and avoid confrontation unless there’s no other way but standing your ground and fighting. But if that time comes, at least you now know where to go in order to overcome your opponents.

Best Household Items For Your Protection!

Best Household Items For Your Protection

Picture this: you’re in your home, minding your own business. You’re in your bed, in your kitchen or simply walking along from one room to another. All of the sudden you realize you’re being the victim of property trespassing and you’re face to face with the perpetrator. You are defenseless and you feel it! But how defenseless are you really? Not as much as you might think. As long as you are not at gun point or already subdued, you can fight back with pretty much everything you can find. And there are plenty of things that can pack quit a punch around a regular household. Even though the adrenalin flows, try and keep your cool and think quickly. If you react fast enough in grabbing the most appropriate thing and using it at full capacity, you can take out pretty much anyone that means you harm.

Many household items and appliances are excellent improvised weapons, especially if you target the most sensitive body parts, like the groin, the eyes or the neck. Even if you own a gun, most that it might not be in handy, so consider your possibilities.

Let’s have a look at the items that will save you skin in case of a self-defense scenario:

As long as it’s stick-shaped and hard enough, it can hurt. Many items lying around the house are more than perfect for such an occasion. If you happen to have a broom nearby or a mop, the tail is hard enough to be used as a weapon, and can be very affective for blows on the head, on the groin or even on the hands (providing the attacker is carrying a weapon and you’re looking to disarm him). A baseball bat would be preferable, as its thickness makes it very unlikely to break, in case you miss you swing and hit it against a tough surface. If you’re being attacked in the hallway, you can always grab a walking cane or an umbrella, which can be very versatile: you can open it for protection (if the assailant is throwing stuff at you) and you can even use it to pierce flesh (if it’s pointy at the end). The best tool for such an occasion though would have to be the vacuum cleaner wand, and the reasons are obvious: it’s a metal bar that will never break, it’s not very heavy and everybody has one.

Sharp and pointy

It’s impossible not to find something that fits the description in every single room of a regular household! If you find yourself in the kitchen, plenty of kitchen knives (even butcher knives and hatchets for those serious meat eaters) are either lying around or orderly stored in shelves. You can use them as throwing weapons, if the attacker is out of reach and you intend on keeping things that way. But they also work perfectly as close range weapons, when the attacker gets close enough to get cut. Forks and corks work just as well for stabbing, especially in soft zones, like the neck or the eyes. Bottles are excellent cutting tools, if you grab them by the neck and smack them against a hard surface. You’ll be left with a very dangerous improvised knife that can cut a surface as big as the bottle diameter. Don’t try a similar approach with coffee mugs or glasses, as you might end up hurting yourself instead; simply use them as throwing weapons.

For slashing and cutting, sometimes, you need not look any further then your own pockets. A ballpoint pen, a pencil or even regular keys can be more than enough to inflict massive amounts of pain on whomever means you harm. They can easily pierce skin and inflict irrecoverable damage to the eyes. Neither would work well a throwing weapon though, because of their reduced weight. So keep them for close-quarter combat.

Believe it or not, a simple scarf or a long and sturdy enough piece of cloth can prove fatal if used correctly. The military are training for self defense with scarves, as they can prove very efficient in a close combat scenario. If you manage to get around your attackers neck, the scarf instantly becomes a garrote, which can easily cut blood circulation or the airflow through the neck. This will immediately weaken your adversary, but applied pressure for longer than necessary can even cause death. Blankets or drapes can be used as a means of distraction. Simply throw it at perpetrator. This will temporary blind him and obstruct vision. It will buy you more than enough time to react and to subdue him, either by locking his arms and legs or by delivering hard enough blows. If might also offer the possibility to escape in some cases. And if avoiding confrontation becomes an option, that’s what you should do.

eyesoresThe eyes are the main source of input, especially in a situation based on direct confrontation. Luckily they are very sensitive and it doesn’t take much to affect eyesight. Once this happens, it’s very unlikely that your adversary will put a good fight. Not only is the process very painful, but the eyes swell and water instantly, greatly reducing visibility. A regular spray (be it deodorant, window cleaner or inhaler) will provoke instant eye damage and excruciating pain. Squeezing orange or lemon juice in the eyes works just as fine, especially if you happen to find yourself in the kitchen, making orange juice or lemonade at the time of the attack. Salt, pepper, vinegar or even plant dirt (if you have plants in handy) are also very efficient and common to almost every household.

You will not always find yourself in the attacking position, but most likely will find yourself reduced to defending yourself. Whether it’s attacks at point-blank or you’re having stuff thrown your way, there are plenty of things you can grab in order to not get hit. Moving out of harm’s way would be ideal, but if this is not an option, you can simply grab large enough objects to deflect the attacks. Against a knife attack you can easily use your laptop, tablet, a suitcase or even a regular pot lid. The latter works perfectly as a shield, because its handle makes it easy to pick up and use, leaving you with a free hand, which you can use to grab a weapon yourself.

In some situations defending yourself with regular household items might even be preferable to using of fire arms. Not only might a gun be in handy, but you can go around many legal issues concerning self defense, as everyday items are not legally considered to be weapons. So decorate your house in such a way that every room has at least one item that might save your skin in case you’re being attacked in your own home.

The EMP Weapon: Bringer Of Darkness And Chaos Could Soon To Be Unleashed Against US!

What is the EMP effect?

The electro-magnetic pulse (aka EMP) is a short burst of electromagnetic energy (as short as hundreds of nanoseconds), taking the form of a pulse of radiated electro-magnetic field or of a conducted electrical current (depending on the source of origin). It’s always disruptive on electronic equipment. They happen commonly in nature (lightning, electromagnetic discharge or even meteor EMP) or they can be man-made (electric motors, gasoline engine ignition systems, power lines surges). The military EMP devices (although are also man-made), are build to serve a whole different purpose.

They are highly advanced tactical weapons meant for combat. They are non-lethal, but they debilitate the enemy’s combat capacity by rendering useless everything that uses or runs on electrical currents. The EMP weapons can be nuclear (HEMP – capable of producing a pulse of immense magnitude) and non-nuclear EMP weapons (NNEMP).

How much harm can a non-lethal weapon cause?

Loads and loads of it! Civilian and commercial computer systems are most vulnerable to EMP attacks. They are basically built of high density Metal Oxide Semiconductors (MOS), extremely exposed to high voltage transients. defendThese types of devices don’t require high amounts of energy to be completely annihilated. In fact, it takes only a variation of tens of Volts to produce the gate oxide breakdown effect that eventually destroys the targeted apparatus. Some devices may resist such an attack and may still run even while “wounded”, but their reliability comes hard into question. Protection cases exist and might have been efficient, except for one Achilles’ heel: the casing will not protect the cables, which acting like antennas, will direct the pulse straight into the circuitry. The computers used in data processing systems, communications, industrial control applications (ex. Road and rail signaling), electronic flight control, digital engine controls and common mobile phones are VULNERABLE to EMP attacks! But processing units are not the only targets. Even simpler electronics, based on copper wiring, transistors and diodes are just as vulnerable. After an EMP attack, don’t count on your generators too much. The victims of an EMP affected area won’t even have the convenience of electrical light, yet alone TV, internet or radio. Such a massive electronic takedown would immediately result into a social and economic disaster.

detonation point

EMP detonation point and area of effect

How can we defend ourselves?

The best way of avoiding the effects of a fully unleashed electro-magnetic pulse would be to destroy the platform carrying the bomb (be it jet or vehicle). But this would be a long shot, so the next best thing would be to fully incase every single piece of equipment that is susceptible to EMP radiation in protective casings, capable of withstanding (some, if not all) the impact. These types of casing are called Faraday cages and they keep the electromagnetic field away from the circuit boards. The power cables are still a possible back door for the destructive pulse, so special electromagnetic arresting devices can be fitted in order to help dampen the effect. The fiber optic cables used for data transfer however, are completely safe.

Production costs are important! As an electronic or electrical system is composed of numerous elements, precautions must be taken for each one of them, individually. The breakdown of a single component could cease the activity of the entire system. In most cases is cheaper to design new EMP resistant equipment then it would be to upgrade an old one. Maintenance costs could sky-rocket if, for example, you tied to fix complex circuitry that has been slightly affected, but not destroyed. The inconsistency of the malfunctioning gadget could be caused by a minor component, but the time and effort put into detecting and fixing the problem might not be worth it.

Another means of defense against the EMP attack, tactical facilities especially should not radiate detectable emissions. Where radio frequency communications must be used, low probability of intercept techniques should be employed exclusively to preclude the use of site emissions for electromagnetic targeting purposes

Is this doomsday scenario possible?

Yes, it is! According to Dr. Peter Vincent Pry (Executive Director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security and Director of the U.S. Nuclear Strategy Forum), Russia has realised the potential of full-out EMP attacks and has been developing the technology ever since. The US has been doing just about the same. But meanwhile, more and more states interested in this subject. Experts declare that North Korea have been developing their own nuclear and EMP programs, with the help of the Russian Federation. In May 2009, the North Koreans detonated an EMP warhead that produced high-gamma output combined on a relatively small blast output of three kilotons.

Dr. Pry claims that the Iranian military forces are also in the in possession of EMP tactical warheads based on military training programs, which would suggest high altitude practice strikes. Needles to say that these three regimes consider the US as their enemy and primary target. But things might have just gotten worse, as data suggests even terrorist groups (such as ISIS) have been getting in possession on EMP weapons.

As time passes by, our enemies are getting stronger. And so must we. Be alert, keep calm and stay informed! We might just make it.

5 Ways To Keep Looters Away From YOUR Home – Part 2 of 2 –

I’m back with more super strategies to protect your family from looters and thieves. Last time, we covered the first 2 Home Defense Golden Rules, so today we’re going to talk about 3 more simple ways to keep your home secure, even if riots are right outside your window.

Here they are:

3. Keep your goodies away from curious eyes

I already mentioned keeping your valuables away from your windows, where passersby can see them (including expensive furniture, TV sets, DVD players, an audio system or other gadgets). But looters aren’t always the enemies coming from the outside.

In times of crisis, even your best neighbors can turn into looters. In a dog eat dog society, there’s not much room for friendly neighbors. So if you’re stockpiling, make sure you keep your supplies in a hidden place, where visitors can’t see them.

If you’ve got a storage room ( a pantry, a garage or an actual room you use to store your stockpile), keep it locked at all times and don’t leave the key in an obvious place. You can put the key in a top drawer or hide it behind a cupboard.

Ideally, you should also hide generators, bug-out bags, survival kits, weapons and the rest of your emergency “tools”. Looters don’t only steal food. They look for anything they can use or sell to buy what they need.

4. Don’t let people know you’re not home

If you go away for the weekend or on a holiday, make sure your home looks like you’re there 24/7. You don’t want people to sniff an unwatched bag of goodies in your house!

So here’ s what you need to do: first of all, light up your house. Invest in a motion-sensor lighting system. They won’t be able to get in your house without getting in the spotlight as well. You can use this type of lighting inside and outside your house, if you want to scare looters off before they even get to the front door.

If you leave home for more than three days, don’t leave mail piled up in your mailbox. It practically screams “I’m not home, so come on and break into my house!”Ask a friend or a neighbor you trust to pick it up for you while you’re gone. It’s the safest option you’ve got.

If you’ve got a telephone, plug it out before you leave. If someone wants to know if you’re home, they’ll search for your phone number in Yellow Pages or on the Internet and call you to see if you answer or not.

And here’s the last Golden Rule to protect your home against looters and burglars:

5. If they do get inside, give them hell!

Let’s say you’re facing some really ambitious looters who really want to break into your home and your home only…

Can you imagine the hungry smirks on their faces when they get inside YOUR house? Well, this image should be motivating enough to give them the worst Skavenger’s hunt they’ve ever see in their life! Usually, looters only stick around for a few minutes, to avoid getting caught. So thelonger it takes for them to find the goodies, the faster they decide to flee the place with whatever they find on hand.

So as a general rule, never keep your valuables on display. However, there are some things you can’t hide, so just etch your name and phone number on them. This will give them a hard time to sell your stuff.

Another thing: Keep your stockpile in a hidden place, perhaps covered by a curtain or behind a closet (or maybe IN a step-in closet!) Your stockpile is crucial to you and your family during a crisis, so protect it as well as you can. Put a big bolt lock on it and keep it undercover. As long as you’ve got food, water and a heating source, you’re good.

That’s about everything you should know about home defense during the crisis. If you follow these 5 Golden Rules, you can rest assure your home will be more secure than any other in your neighborhood. So have fun with the preparations and stay safe!

5 Ways To Keep Looters Away From YOUR Home – Part 1 of 2

5 Ways To Keep Looters Away From YOUR Home

I’m sure you’ve seen this message “Looters will be shot” before on TV,or on the internet. Or maybe one of your neighbors has already written it on his house walls. But I wouldn’t suggest you do the same thing. And I’ll tell you why in just a moment.

But let’s see why this whole fuss about looters began in the first place. When hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, a lot of people were forced to evacuate their homes and leave everything inside. But they never found them when they went back. And no, it wasn’t the storm. It was looters. They started walking around from house to house, guns in their hands, stealing money and valuables. And threatening or even injuring everyone who dared get in the way.

But they didn’t get to leave unpunished. By the time they finished their “rounds”, people organized a resistance group. They were armed and thirsty for vengeance. And they wanted the whole world to know it. So they got a spray paint and they wrote this message on a wall: “Looters will be shot”. And that’s how it all began.

After this incident, more and more people marked their own walls with way, hoping to protect their stockpile and their families. But here’s the thing: lotters not only loot for food, water and gas stoves. They also loot for guns. And that message written on your wall clearly states: “I’ve got guns, come and get them when I’m not home!” And you don’t want a bunch of violent criminals rummaging your home and scaring your kids, do you?

So here’s how you can keep looters far away from your house, with almost no risk at all:

1. Make your house look unappealing

That doesn’t mean you should trash your front yard, your windows and doors, as others advise. In fact, that’s another rookie mistake. An already trashed house makes an easy target (looters LOVE easy targets) and it may reveal hidden treasures others didn’t bother to look for.

So don’t start ruining your house, there’s no need for extreme measures. Just make it less appealing than your neighbors’. Yes, it’s very selfish and may sound mean, but that’s what it takes to keep your family safe and sound. So if your house stands out among the others, fix that. Make it look like it hasn’t been renovated in a long time, scratch the paint of the walls every here and there. And keep your valuables away from windows (your TV, your home office, expensive furniture etc).

2. Make it almost impossible for looters to break into your home

Keep looters far away from your front door by setting “obstacles” all around your front yard. Plant roses or other thorn bushes in front of your windows, so they can’t get close to you house. Avoid keeping tall bushes or trees in your garden, where looters can easily hide.

Next, check out if your door is protective enough. First thing you need to do: invest in a high-end bolt lock on your door. Not the kind your grandkids could break in less than a minute… I mean the kind you could easily use in a state prison.

When it comes to protecting your home, watch for the soft spots. If you’ve got big, fragile windows, cover them with a protective sheet. You can find it at any Walmart, it’s not expensive, but it will surely make the glass harder to break.

And last, but not least… get a big, mean-looking dog, like a Rottweiler or a pitbull. If trained well, you’ll have a wonderful companion that your family will love… and the most fierceful bodyguard you could ever have!
