Keep Breathing: Some Of The Best Gas Masks You Can Afford

Keep Breathing: Some Of The Best Gas Masks You Can Afford

We’re all aware of what a gas mask is; at least we have some idea about them. Gas masks (aka. respirators) are heavily used in society. The Police force has them, the Special Forces have them, the firefighters have them, spray painters have them etc. The basic use of a gas mask is to serve as filter for the air you’re breathing in and to stop possible irritants and noxious substances from getting into your respiratory system and affecting you general state your health.

The best gas masks (or respirators) are based on the same principle: the air is pulled into the canister that has a filtering system (on 3 layers: aerosol filter, charcoal filter and dust filter) and then is released towards the interior of the mask; the filtered air is safe to breathe.

The air is sucked into the canister as the wearer breathes. There are also battery operated gas masks, equipped with a fan, that will syphon air inside, but become useless when the batteries die out. There are also some that work just like a scuba breathing system: they don’t have a filtering canister, but a pressurized air canister, that is completely sealed.

A gas mask is a real asset for any serious prepper. It’s an absolute must-have in case of a chemical or biological attack. Works just as well in a combat zone, as it’ll filter out heavy smoke and even dust clouds. There two main types of masks: half masks and full mask. I half mask will cover your mouth and nose only; they’re used in spray painting and are recommended only if you know what contaminant you’re dealing with. In case of an extremely dangerous contaminant or if you simply don’t know what you’re facing, a full gas mask is the way to go. Not only will it cover your respiratory system, but I’ll also protect your eyes and face from dangerous agents, like Anthrax etc.

Israeli Civilian Gas Mask

This gas mask was issued by the Israeli government, is NATO approved and it’s perfect if you consider the quality / price ratio (it costs about $80). Because of the relatively low price and good features, it’s regarded to be as the standard gas mask for civilian protection. It’s best used in an evacuation scenario from a contaminated area. The mask itself is made out of a soft but durable rubber that covers the whole face (full mask); it offers great protection not only for the respiratory system, but also for the entire face. It has extremely efficient filters (NBC filters) that will keep you safe from almost everything, from nuclear and biological agents (like Anthrax) to chemical agents. This particular gas mask comes in both adult and child versions.

M61 Finnish Gas Mask

The MA61 model was developed in Finland and it’s meant to be used as a heavy-duty gas mask. It’s a side-mounted mask, which means the filter is screwed into the side of the mask, rather than in the font. The rubber it’s made from is extremely durable, but rather soft flexible at the same time. Its flexibility means that the mask will incase the face of the wearer perfectly, making it airtight, so that noxious fumes or chemical agents won’t find their way inside. It uses a twin goggle system rather than a single visor. The exhalation system has a plastic valve with an integrated speech diaphragm, for better communication.

The 1000 CBA-RCA mask is 100% American and it was developed based on a US Military design that was used by the USAF during the Operation Desert Storm. It has a Hycar face piece which is about 40% lighter than most full gas masks and also a customizable fit. There’s also a standard nose cup to eliminate visor fogging and a mechanical speaking diaphragm. The visor is a one piece that’s extremely tough and offers great field of vision. The canister can be mounted on both the left and the right side and it’s effective against all sorts of biological and chemical agents, like Mustard, Lewisite, GA, GB, GD etc. The head harness is adjustable and stable. There’s also an ID tag attached and it includes a CBA-RCA canister. The whole package comes at about $300.

There are plenty of models that are available on the market, it’s only a matter of personal choice. The price of a certain gas mask does not necessarily reflect its quality, so you don’t have to spend a lot of money for a good product that will filter well and fit great. But you’ll need to educate yourself in the matter a bit so you won’t throw your money out the window. Luckily there’s many manufacturer’s and sellers and price ranges vary from one to the other. So keep hunting for bargains, you’ll most likely find them.

The Untold Truths About Vaccines And Why Pharmaceutical Companies Can’t Be Trusted

The Untold Truths About Vaccines

Vaccination has become a real issue lately, not only in the US, but worldwide. The controversy is far from being over, as people seem to be separated into two sides when it comes to vaccination: those who approve of vaccines and those who oppose them. As a parent, choosing a side is a great responsibility, because in this clash, only one side can be ultimately right. And the overall wellbeing of your children will depend on your choice.  The first advocates for vaccination you’ll come across will be your local pediatrician, but don’t let yourself persuaded that easily. He’ll have nothing else in mind than your kid’s health, no doubt about that, but keep in mind that he’s the result of a medical system that has proven to be flawed before. And more so, the vaccination standards and regulations are all directed by the AMA (the American Medical Association). The obvious question is whose best interest does the AMA hold: that of our children, or that of the pharmaceutical corporations (whose only purpose is financial profit)?

Shocking facts about vaccination that you should know

Throughout modern history, there have been several issues with many vaccines on the market. Those who claim otherwise are simply ignorant or ill-intentioned. RotaShield (the Rotavirus vaccine) falls into this category. It was removed from the market in late 1999, when it was demonstrated that there are links between bowel malfunction (obstruction, chaotic bowel twisting) and the vaccine itself. It was a great deal at the time, and the case is real as you clearly see for yourself here. The vaccine that followed (RotaTeq) was supposedly the new and improved version of the RotaShield vaccine. Although it doesn’t appear to be as destructive as its predecessor, it too seems to be causing bowel afflictions; you might find it hard to believe, but RotaTeq is still available on the market. Another famous and controversial case of vaccine malfunction has been recorded in February 2002, when GlaxoSmithKline (a preventive vaccine for Lyme Disease) has been withdrawn from the market. The manufacturer claimed poor sales, but the truth of the matter was that compelling evidence pointed out that the vaccine itself was responsible for worse cases of arthritis than the disease itself. You can read all about the untold truths about vaccines in this full report here.

In 2011, the I.O.M. (the Institute of Medicine), has submitted a report for further proof that certain vaccines can cause undeniable side effects. They’re studies have shown that the Chickenpox Vaccine can afflict children with immunodeficiency (but not only) with hepatitis, meningitis, encephalitis or pneumonia. The Measles-Mumps-Rubella (MMR) Vaccine favors encephalitis, febrile seizures and Arthralgia (Short-term joint pain) in women and children. The HPV vaccine seems to be the cause of anaphylaxis in yeast-sensitive females and as overall side-effects, all vaccines can cause syncopes (fainting) or arm inflammation.

Dangerous chemicals and compounds found in vaccines

When it comes to purchasing processed food or sodas or whatever else intended for human consumption, the first thing you should do is to not focus the price of the product, but on the ingredients section. A vaccine is no different. You should be very aware before administering such a drug to your child. Most vaccines (if not all) that are on the market contain many substances and chemicals that can be extremely harmful to a human being. These potentially harmful components and their terrible side-effects are not given the proper attention and respect, mainly because of the marketing policies that the pharmaceutical moguls impose. Here’s a list of some commonly found chemicals in vaccines:

  • Formaldehyde is a carcinogenic fluid (used primarily in embalming corpses) that can cause respiratory distress, liver damage, reproductive deformation, gastrointestinal problems and various forms of cancer. Another flaw of this chemical is that it can neutralize the virus in the vaccine, which will make the vaccine completely useless
  • Thimerosal is basically mercury. Every vaccine contains about 25 mcg of Thimerosal, and according to the EPA the safe limit for humans is about 5 mcg. It’s very neurotoxic and it’s been linked to autism
  • Aluminum phosphate it’s dangerous because it reacts to mercury and it increases its toxicity. Considering that every vaccine already contains about 25 mcg of mercury, the recommended dosage is exceeded from the go
  • Sodium chloride inhibits growth, prevents normal muscle contraction and affects the circulatory system
  • Monosodium glutamate (MSG) when injected, it becomes chemical unstable and turns into a neurotoxin; it’s been linked to brain damage in children and CNS (central nervous system) disorders
  • Phenoxyethanol can disrupt the central nervous system and can gravely affect the liver or kidneys
  • Glycerin is known for causing gastrointestinal damage, lung damage, liver and kidney shutdown
  • Bovine cow serum causes chest pain, low blood pressure, lupus, arthritis and can damage connective tissue

These are only some of the most damaging chemicals used in vaccine. The list is much longer, be sure of that.

So before considering vaccination (for yourself or your family), do some research first. Listen to both sides and make up your mind whether the shot is worth it or not. At the end of the day, the damage cause by the “cure” can be far greater than that of the affliction you’re trying to prevent. Stay safe, stay informed and don’t be fooled by advertisements.

Top 3 Forms Of Martial Arts To Learn For Your Personal Protection

Top 3 Forms Of Martial Arts To Learn For Your Personal Protection

You can benefit greatly from studying martial arts. And no, it’s not meant for kids only: If you’re serious about it, you can start out as old as you like and still end up being good at it. Martial arts can be more than learning combat moves for self defense: they’re great physical exercise, great self-discipline training, each form has its own philosophy and spiritual practice behind it (which you can study along with the moves) and great fun. But for those of you who are planning on getting their money’s worth, you can ultimately become an expert.

You might find yourself during your lifetime in certain situations from which you could easily escape unharmed if you have the proper training. Learning a fighting style could be very useful as a self-defense method: against attackers, muggers, perpetrators etc. If you’re trained well enough you could easily disarm assailants or even take on more than one at a time. There have been many fighting styles and techniques developed throughout history in various parts of the world. There are also many combinations of fighting styles available (mixed martial arts), for people who want to get the best of ALL worlds. It’s a matter of choice; let’s see what are the most popular at the moment and maybe you’ll find the one that suits you best.

Krav Maga

This it may come as a surprise, but it’s Israel’s very own fighting style. It was developed (mostly) by Imi Lichtenfeld during the 1930s. The style itself is very direct, meant to counter holds and incapacitations of every sort. Because it’s full contact and it gives advantage against almost any type of attack, it’s excellent for street survival, and not only. It’s a mixed style, comprised of elements which are basic to other fighting techniques like Karate, Jiu-Jitsu throws and grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ground fighting, Wing Chun burst of hands and even Greco-Roman wrestling. Its dynamics consist in the fact that it allows the practitioner to a attack and defend at the same time, in a single movement of the body.  In most martial arts styles the tendency is to block and immediately respond with a counter blow. Things are different in Krav Maga, we’re you’re suppose to block and deliver the attack at the same time: you could (for example) block an attack with you right arm and at the same time strike with the other arm or the legs. The strikes delivered and promoted by Krav Maga are vicious, meant to incapacitate and hurt as much as possible. You learn to go for the most exposed body part, like the throat, eyes, groin or the liver. It also teaches a lot of techniques for disarming your opponents, no matter if they bare sticks, knives or guns. The style is very efficient, it develops hand-eye coordination and it takes no longer then 5 months to learn.

This is a very distinct fighting style, which has been promoted a great deal in pop culture by Steven Seagal. Don’t let Seagal’s reputation as an actor throw you off: he is probably the leading authority in the field when it comes to Aikido, having studied most of his youth years in Japan, with the greatest masters. He’s a legit 7 degree black belt who not only mastered the style, but also developed it: the kote gaeshi (Seagal’s signature move) or “forearm return” is a prolific move, essential to all survival fighters, no matter the style or technique.

This style uniqueness consists in its approach to direct fighting: Aikido teaches almost no direct blows whatsoever, it mostly teaches you how to counter everything that can be thrown at you. Its philosophy is based on the idea that an attacking opponent always leaves himself vulnerable. What you need to do is exploit that vulnerability and use your enemy’s momentum against him. For example, a straight punch could simply be countered by side-stepping and grabbing the opponents wrist or arm. You can simply pivot and throw him down if you grab the arm, or if the wrist is involved, simply twist it towards the outside. The momentum will help you break the wrist with almost no effort from your part, incapacitating your attacker immediately. This style requires awareness rather than speed or strength. If you keep your cool and your eyes opened, as an Aikido practitioner, you’ll have no trouble breaking the joints and wrists of your attackers.

Muay Thai Kickboxing

The fighting style was originally developed in Thailand, in the 19th century, and it translates to “the art of the 8 limbs”. It’s a contact fighting style, based on a large variety of punches, elbows and kicks. It’s philosophy consists in the fact that someone who is using a tool for fighting is limited by that one tool. A muay thai practitioner, on the other hand, has many such tools (punches, kicks, elbows), therefore has the advantage. It’s not a fancy style, but rather an effective one. It’s based on lighting speed, precision and power, and can exploit even the slightest opening in your adversary’s defense. The best way to counter a weapon attack (as long as you not held at gun point) is to approach the attacker as forward as possible. Simply aim for the jaw, throat or liver and kick it as hard as possible.

With enough technique and training, your legs and punches could easily crack bones and inflict serious pain. Kickboxing requires some serious physical training, as its practitioners do a little something called combat qi. It’s basically subjecting your body parts to repeated hits and damage, until the “hardened” body part no longer hurts as it used to. This practice is mostly used to harden the shin bone; kick boxers hit hard surfaces for 2 hours-a-day, 2 years straight.

There are many other fighting styles available, but these are my personal favorites and possibly the most useful in a combat scenario. But if you have to take one thing away from martial arts, that’s discipline and self control. Do not get carried away and avoid confrontation unless there’s no other way but standing your ground and fighting. But if that time comes, at least you now know where to go in order to overcome your opponents.

Home Essentials You Need for Survival

Home Essentials You Need for Survival

With so many daily work, family, and personal distractions, it’s no wonder so many of us remain unconcerned and unprepared for a potential disaster to strike. But they do strike often, all around the world, and assuming you and your family will be exempt could endanger your lives.

Even though it takes thought and investment, preparing your home and your family for unexpectedly harsh conditions is well worth the sacrifice. In fact, the peace of mind alone might be worth it. If you don’t know where to get started, Modernize offers up a list of home essentials to build off of as you collect survival supplies.

Flashlights, Lanterns, and Backup Batteries
When anticipating a disaster, the last thing you should rely on is electricity. And there’s nothing more frightening than thinking of trying to keep your family safe in total darkness. Make sure flashlights and lanterns are handy in several rooms of the house, and always keep a good stock of backup batteries and bulbs. Solar flashlights are also a great addition, especially if you’re going to need to be on the move.

Hand Crank Radio
Staying tuned in to what’s going on could mean the difference between life and death. Procure a solar hand crank radio that will keep you updated on the news and weather while you keep your family locked up safe.

How To Survive A Permanent Power Outage

Solar Oven and Freezer
Nobody hopes that the aftermath of a disaster will be long-term. But it’s best to prepare for a longer time without electricity than you would like to imagine. Solar ovens are simple, effective, and can cook food in a variety of ways. Ready-to-go, just-add-water meals are very handy for a short term emergency. But a solar oven and a solar freezer to store your food stock could work in tandem to keep your family eating well in spite of the circumstances.

Coats and Boots
Being prepared for inclement weather is essential. Heavy-duty raincoats, winter coats, hiking boots, and rain boots will help keep them warm in dry in case of flooding or freezing weather. It will also help them travel more easily if traveling becomes necessary.

Water Purifier
Aside from shelter, water is the most immediate and vital need in many emergency situations. If you are not prepared to convert unsafe water into potable water, you’re not truly prepared at all. You need to both have ways to filter and purify it. While you’re thinking of your water needs, it never hurts to set up a rain catchment system that will allow you access to running water—though you will still need to treat rainwater to make it potable.

First Aid Supplies
A well-stocked survival first aid kit will include gloves, surgical shears, antiseptic wipes, bandages, pain relieving medication, antibiotic ointment, cotton-tipped applicators, sterile
gauze pads, a thermometer, tweezers, and several other items.

Make sure to thoroughly research and go beyond the basics for your first aid kit.

Pet Supplies
No one overlooks their kids when they plan for a disaster, but a pet isn’t always foremost on everyone’s mind. Pets need their own survival supplies including food, blankets, bowls, a leash, their own first aid supplies, and anything else you determine your individual pets’ need.

Sanitary Supplies
While weather disasters are more common in America these days, epidemics also pose a danger—as do unclean condition potentially caused by natural disasters. Supplies that would come in handy during a dangerous outbreak include: adhesive sealing masks with eye shields, anti-bacterial and anti-virus lotion, anti-bacterial wipes, bio hazard bags, bio hazard suits and gloves, and a supply of antibacterial soap.

Hygiene Essentials
Comfort and cleanliness isn’t usually the first thing on your mind in a survival situation. But if you prepare ahead, you can be more thorough about what your family needs and wants. Items like soap, toilet tissue, toothbrushes and toothpastes, feminine products, deodorant, and razors will come in handy even after just a day of relying on your survival supplies.

Sleeping Bags
Reflective sleeping bags that are cushy and can withstand harsh weather could mean the difference between a safe and good night’s rest and many sleepless, anxious nights. To protect your family from hypothermia, select sleeping bags that offer heavy insulation, fully waterproof materials, and low temperature ratings.

70 howtos for your preps

Emergency Preparedness Guide
No matter how much you prepare yourself and your family, any type of emergency or disaster is bound to come with surprises. Instead of relying completely on your supplies and knowledge, make sure you have the educational resources anyone in your family would need to know how to deal with in difficult disaster-related circumstances.

Multi-Tool Knife
Weapons are certainly an important aspect of a home survival kit, as are tools. Combine them into one item for optimum efficiency and ease of use. You never know when a screwdriver, pliers, or a mini saw could come in handy.

These are simply the foundational items for a home survival kit. Build off of your family’s anticipated needs and show them how to use the supplies in case of an emergency.

How To Completely Disappear From The Radar, Lose Your Identity And Leave Everything Behind: Do You Have What It Takes?

ow To Completely Disappear From The Radar, Lose Your Identity And Leave Everything Behind - Do You Have What It Takes

If your life is going to hell fast for some reason or another, if you feel that those close to you might have it better without having you around, or if you simply feel like starting fresh in someone else’s skin, you might just be able to do it. Disappear completely; it becomes harder to do each passing day (because of the ever-growing technological advances), but it’s still possible. Achieving a complete disappearance will not be easy and it may come at great costs. You’ll just need to plan your steps carefully, in advance, erase any tracks and records of you soon-to-be former self and create a new identity.

Lose Your Identity

As I said before: it’s no walk in the park. The average American is regularly found in 200+ data bases, ever watched by the 30 million cameras from all across the state. So the ultimate “magic” act will require MONTHS of thorough preparation. But be advised: they may be dire legal consequences to your Houdini stunt! If caught, you will be held responsible if you disappear simply to escape debts or substantiate insurance claims. You’ll be charged with FRAUD and you’ll be going to jail. If you’re found by an organized search party, you’ll have to manage the costs of the rescue mission eventually.

However, there are many other reasons for wanting to disappear. Perhaps you had a stalker and don’t want another one. Or perhaps you are just sick of the lack of privacy and prying into your life.

The first thing to consider when staging your own disappearance is the fact that going alone increases you chances of success. Another person increasingly endangers the operation, especially a child. Children are less likely to play their part and, in the eyes of the Law, disappearing with a child under the wrong circumstances is considered kidnapping (even child endangerment in some cases). Make sure your reasons for evaporating in thin air are good and there’s no other alternative. Things will be though if along the lines you’ll have to face authorities (the police, immigration officers, detectives etc.) because these are professionals that look for people for a living – with a budget! In some cases, even running away from family members or friends might prove difficult, because some people will spare no expense in order to find the ones they lost.

read more textFaking your own kidnapping is the wrong approach. Even a false lead might cost you. Just make it as if you’ve vanished into thin air. Firstly, delete as many pictures of you as you can! Even the ones in the possession of those close to you (if you can access them). This will make it harder for them to inquire about you on the streets; makes for less pictures on walls, fences, poles and milk cartons. Abandon your car in a bad neighborhood or on a side road, with the keys in the ignition, some gas in the tank and all the papers of ownership in the glove box and watch nature take its course: the majestic urban thief will pounce on its prey faster than lightning! If it some point you get another car, make sure it’s nothing like what you’d normally get, so you don’t arouse suspicion. Once you leave, don’t take anything dear with you. Even something as insignificant as your favorite shoe laces might give you away.

Make no mention of your plans, especially on social media sites. Most of them keep records. And make sure you delete all your social media accounts too, but don’t do it suddenly. Keep a low profile for months in advance your disappearance, so nothing attracts attention when you accounts get deleted. Stay away from technological gizmos as much as possible. Laptops and mobile phones can easily be hacked. Your location could be given away by GPS. You can even be monitored in real time thanks to the cameras or microphones on your mobile devices. The Ditto and OnStar systems are highly used in the US for just such occasions. Typing is not safer either. You type patterns can be easily traceable by the ECHELON program, which monitors text messages based on preset keywords. When you’re finally ready to step out the door, do so calmly, alerting nobody with your actions. Hide your nervousness and if engaged in conversation, keep cool and just explain your going out for air or to the store.

Delete all reminders of your former self, including membership cards, coupons, especially credit cards. Cut them up into tiny pieces and burn them. Don’t use the credit cards, as it makes your position available in no time; rely on cache from now on. Make sure you have enough on you and stash it properly. Flashing large amounts of money in the wrong places might get you worse then found: dead. Traveling by means of transport is the way to go! The train, the bus or the bike don’t require you to carry a driver’s license or anything else that might give you away. Besides, in public transport you travel “in packs”, which makes you less conspicuous and less likely to stand out. Flying in this case, it’s almost impossible, as purchasing a plane ticket requires a lot of personal data and information. You could use fake IDs, but there’s always a high risk of getting caught. Don’t resort to them unless you have no other choice.

Get used to lying, because that’s what you’ll be doing for the rest of your life from now on. If you’re a bad liar, you won’t be getting anywhere! Cut your ties easily and as inconspicuously as possible with those around you. Be mentally prepared for the fact that you’re never going to hear from them again. If you don’t intend of cutting the ties forever, make sure to contact them from public computers that have pre-registered accounts or public pay-phones. Deception is the key! Be as deceptive as possible. Before unleashing your “evil plan” create false leads. Make sure you’ve “corrected” your personal details in the listings of companies you worked with at one point or another and book flights or reservations you never mean to honor in the first place. This will confuse those who will track you and will throw them off your back.

When it comes to fake identities, who says you have to stick to just one? You can create many aliases for yourself; this will make you even more untraceable. It’s good you have hard cash on you, but that eventually wears of and there’s only so much you can carry on you. If you have the means, create a small company or steady source of income based on a false identity and maintain your access to it. It shouldn’t be anything big, as great financial the alarm, getting unwanted attention. It’s best not to steal someone else’s identity, as it can backfire. Unbeknownst to you, you might try to clear a plane ticket using the social security number of a deceased person… and it won’t end well.

As far as equipment goes, never pack more then you need. Keep a large enough backpack to store provisions, some clothes, a pocket knife, a compass, a map and everything else that can potentially increase your chances of survival in harsh conditions. Before leaving buy a new backpack, don’t use the one you have. You might be identified because of it. If your destination is another country, research and plan in advance. Look thoroughly into visa conditions and government regulations for where you’re heading. Some countries are cheaper to live in for long periods of time, but to keep it legal you’ll need an ID to obtain residency. If you’re not leaving your country, make sure you leave in an area you’re not tied to in any way or you have never visited before. It’s best that nobody knows you in a 100 mile radius and never revisit old places.

Once you’re gone, make sure you reinvent yourself. Just because you haven’t been found for a while, doesn’t mean you can stop being cautious about it. Change your way of moving. If you used to walk slowly before, pick up your pace, or vice versa. Buy and dress in opposition of who and what you used to be. Always wear the clothes you’d never normally wear. Your appearance must never be eye-catching. Keep yourself nice and simple by staying away from fancy haircuts or bright hair colors. Eat as diversely as possible and while indoors (clubs, restaurants, hotels) make sure to wear a hat or sunglasses in order to protect you face from the surveillance cameras. Always clean up before leaving a motel or a hotel room; leave it as if you were never there. Wear protective hands gear when you must and make sure you leave no finger prints behind you.

Disappearing completely from the radar is no easy task. Is not for the feign hearted or for the home sick. Keep in mind you’re not leaving behind the bad, but also the good. So when the bush comes to shove… Will you have what it takes?

This Handy Map Will Show You How Prepared Your State Really Is

State Preparedness Map

Among preppers, there is an endless debate as to what parts of the country would be safest to live in should the SHTF. You have to factor in statistics like population density, politics, poverty levels, natural resources, and how prone the area is to natural disasters. No state is perfect, but you can reasonably determine that certain places would be significantly safer than others.

However, most survivalists don’t factor in the preparedness level of their state government. By their nature, they’ve long abandoned the notion that you can trust the authorities to save your butt when society falls apart.

This certainly isn’t without just cause, but I think government preparedness deserves a second look. After all, if the government is at least somewhat prepared to take care of the population during a disaster, than preppers in that state will have less to worry about from other survivors.

Recently, a survival food vendor, created a map that determines how safe and prepared each state is. It goes over the most common natural disasters, and their likelihood of occurring in each state. They then established how much money each state spends on preparedness per capita, and gave a score between 0 and 10 for both categories.

If you take a look at the website, you’ll find that they coupled those two numbers and created a list that ranks each state in order from the most, to the least resilient. Some of the results aren’t too surprising. As many preppers have known for a long time, places with very high population densities tend to be poorly prepared.

California, Texas, and New York, the states with the highest populations, are all ranked within the bottom five. The only population dense state that spent a lot of money on preparedness was Illinois. These three states have the highest likelihood of being struck by a disaster, and yet they spend the least amount of money on safety and preparedness, with Texas scoring the worst overall.

Though in all fairness to Texas, almost all of the southern conservative states scored poorly. I suspect this may be due to the fact that their populations tend to be more self reliant and prepared in general, so their state governments don’t feel the need to spend as much on preparedness.

In the Northeast, it appears to be quite random, with some states spending a lot, and some like New York spending very little. What surprised me was Vermont, which alongside North Dakota ended up spending the most money per capita on disaster preparedness. I can only guess as to why this may be. These statistics also answered a question that many preppers have been debating for years. Which state is the least prone to natural disasters?

Wyoming apparently. They also spend quite a bit on disaster preparedness, just behind Vermont and North Dakota, making them the most resilient state in America. However one fact still remains. No matter how well prepared your state is, it is always prudent to stock up on your own supplies, should disaster strike. No amount of tax dollars can guarantee your safety when the SHTF.

Cash Is King -The Importance of a Cash Stockpile

There’s been a serious trend among preppers for the past few years to stock up on gold and silver. And while there are certainly advantages to having a gold bar or two in your possession, far too many people are neglecting to acknowledge the importance of having some good old fashioned cash on hand.

Granted, in a true SHTF scenario, even cash will soon begin to lose its value as people will eventually revert back to bartering and trading of services. But what about scenarios that don’t involve a complete and extreme collapse? When it comes to dealing with natural disasters or other scenarios that might take the electronic grid down for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks, there are very real benefits to having cash readily available on hand.

And you don’t have to go very far back to see this theory in action, either. As recently as Hurricane Katrina’s devastation in New Orleans and Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast, thousands (if not millions) of people found themselves armed with nothing but useless plastic cards as electricity went down, making electronic purchases impossible. That meant that people who didn’t have cash readily available had no way of purchasing basics like food, water, or fuel. There were no reports of local merchants and grocery stores accepting hunks of gold or silver in exchange for bread and cereal.

[ad code=1 align=center]

The moment the power grid goes down–locally or nation-wide–your credit and debit cards become nothing more than a hunk of molded plastic. Which is why you should keep enough cash safely and readily available to handle at least a few days in a hotel, groceries, gas, and any other necessities. Even in the event of a total financial collapse, it will take the public a while to accept that currency has become devalued, and people will be desperate to sell things for cash.

Cash Stockpile

So what can you do to build up a cash stockpile to match your canned goods and first aid supplies? For starters, remember that it will take time. You should never neglect to pay your bills to stash the cash. What you can do however, is take a closer look at your monthly expenditures and decide where you can carve out some wiggle room.

cut costFor example, switching from a full cable package to one with fewer channels, ditching the expensive cell phone plan for a more streamlined one, or even making the simple swap between eating out and brown bagging your lunch are all easy ways to carve out as much as a few hundred dollars a month. Tuck that money away, and make sure you don’t touch it unless it’s a dire emergency.

Additionally, you can take the budget you normally allocate towards prepping and redirect it for a few months. In other words, take a break from building up your stockpile for a couple of months and save the money that would normally go towards supplies in your untouchable emergency cash stash, instead. It will take some time, but by cycling the two stockpiles this way, you can build both up together.

When Technology Backfires: The New Warfare

Corporations ‘Fracking’ With Our Future Again

In case nature hasn’t been harsh enough on Americans lately, here’s an interesting piece of news: companies such as Encana Oil & Gas, Noble Energy and ConocoPhillips have decided it’s not enough just to poison our water and our air, so they decided to produce earthquakes and possibly genocidal explosionsas well.

According to, “plans are afoot to drill a well that will use fracking technology only a mile from a nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania. The parties involved say they are unconcerned, despite evidence showing fracking increases incidence of earthquakes. (…)

Studies have already linked fracking to the 4.0 earthquake in Ohio last year and several others in Texas and Canada this year.

However, “environmental authorities approved plans to construct a shale gas well near the Beaver Valley Nuclear Power Station in Shippingport earlier this month. State rules require any such well to be more than 500 feet from the edge of plant territory, though data indicates that there are no fracking wells that close to nuclear power stations anywhere in the US.”

If you aren’t aware what fracking is and what it does to the environment, here’s a short description from

“Hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking”,is the process of drilling and injecting fluid into the ground at a high pressure in order to fracture shale rocks to release natural gas inside. There are more than 500,000 active natural gas wells in the US.”

Nuclear Power Station

Unfortunately, the “fluid” injected proved to be filled with chemicals such as lead, uranium, mercury, ethylene glycol, radium, methanol, hydrochloric acid, formaldehydeand other toxic substances. In fact, there are up to 600 chemicals used in this fracking fluid… and most of them end up in the groundwater.

Here’s a video that shows the untold story:

So, basically, the fat cats are playing God with millions of people across the US and there’s no one there to stop them. Not even EPA, even though they’ve acknowledged the dangers of fracking publicly.

NaturalNews reports on the first study linking fracking to water contamination released by the Environmental Protection Agency. This report “identified fracking as the source of poisons, including the carcinogen benzene, in the groundwater of a central Wyoming community.

In fact, we have to thank people in Wyoming for repeatedly urging EPA to check out the contaminated water they were forced to drink and wash with.

After companies like Encana Oil & Gas, Noble Energy and ConocoPhillips started drilling for gas in the area, using the fracking technique, people started to develop new illnesses. They assumed it had to do with the water they’d been drinking, because it started to smell and taste funny. According to NaturalNews, one of the residents of Pavilion, Wyoming, described it as “a cross between something dead and diesel fuel”.

So people contacted the EPA again and again over the years, but no one came to check out the problem until 2009 (a decade after Pavilion residents noticed their water was contaminated). When the agency finally looked into the problem, they found methane, xylenes and hydrocarbons such as diesel in the groundwater.

So what did they do about it? First of all, they forced the drilling companies to deliver clean, fresh water to 21 households in the area. Second of all… yeah, I have to stop here, because there is no second of all. Not yet, anyway, because the full official report will be released in December 2012.

Until then, they’re putting on quite a show to distract us from the all the drilling projects that are being approved as you’re reading this. EPA accused drilling companies of “shoddy drilling practices”,which lead to water contamination. Encana and the gang, on the other hand, are accusing the EPA of contaminating the water themselves, while doing the tests.

In the meanwhile, people are dying from cancer, they suffer liver and kidney damages and expose their babies to the risk of developing congenital malformations. And, by the looks of it, more and more Americans will have to go through the same hell. And I’ll tell you exactly why.

Apparently, the American Dream needs a push, so they thought turning the USA into the world’s biggest gas producer, alongside Russia, will do the trick. This means gas has to come out on the surface somehow. And that somehow is fracking, since it’s the most popular method in our country.

It doesn’t matter that European countries have started to ban fracking, because they realised it’s poisoning their water and air. The USA is fine with that, just get that gas out already!

According to TheExaminingRoom, “so far the states that have been most affected are Pennsylvania, Colorado, Texas, Arkansas, Wyoming and Louisiana. Thousands and thousands of these wells have already been drilled. And all of this has occurred in one mere decade. However there are plans in the works to drill wells in at least 34 of the 50 states.

But everything will turn out fine, because Obama will fix it. At least that’s what he said. That his administration would “take every possible action” to make sure that fracking is done correctly, without putting the public’s health or safety at risk.

I don’t know about you, but I’d really appreciate it if things didn’t get “fixed” Obama-style, just this once.
