7 Detox Miracle-Makers You Have In Your Kitchen

Every single day, you fill your bodies with chemicals without even knowing it. From the veggies you eat to the water you drink, contaminants enter your body, but only some of them leave it. The rest of them stick to your organs in a process called bioaccumulation and pile up over time, making them work more slowly or even malfunction.

What I strongly suggest is to include these 7 little miracle-makers in your day to day diet, without completely changing your lifestyle. It’s very simple and tasty and, even if the results will take a bit more to show, you’ll start feeling more energized and hydrated. This means your body is eliminating the bad stuff and is feeding off the good stuff.

#1: Lemons, Oranges, and Limes

Citrus fruit is probably the best present you can give to your body. It simply flushes out toxins, stimulates your digestive tract and cleanses your liver. What’s more, lemon juice is alkaline, which means your kidneys will stay healthy and stone-free. And thanks to the high levels of Vitamin C, the toxins in your body are transformed into harmless material, that your digestive tract can assimilate.

Here are 2 detox recipes you should use every day:

Lemony mornings

Right after you wake up in the morning, drink a glass of warm water with lots of lemon juice (not the concentrated kind you find at the supermarket in plastic bottles, but the one squeezed from lemons). Don’t eat anything before this. Start every morning with this drink and you’ll feel much more energized the entire day (and will instantly start flushing out toxins).

The Master Cleanse Detox or The Lemon Cleanse

● 2 tablespoons lemon (or lime) juice (approx. 1/2 lemon)

● 2 tablespoons of genuine “grade B” maple syrup (not maple flavored sugar syrup)

● 1/10 Teaspoon or more cayenne pepper

● 1 Cup (8 fluid ounces) of water, room temperature

Combine all the above ingredients in a jar and shake together.

I got this recipe off gregorious.hubpages.com and it involves eating no solid food, just drinking this mix for 10 days. I don’t know about you, but just thinking about this diet gives me stomach aches.

But one thing’s for sure: whether you decide to follow the original diet or simply drink this beverage daily before eating, you’ll help your body get rid of those nasty toxins.

#2: Garlic

This one is a real band-aid for your liver, stimulating it to produce detoxification enzymes which filter out toxic material from your digestive tract.

As you can’t eat great quantities of garlic, it’s best to include it in a diet that’s already rich in detox foods, for a greater effect.

#3: Broccoli Sprouts

There’s only one word that best describes the role these little veggies have in your detox diet: antioxidants. Broccoli sprouts are so high in antioxidants, they’re a surefire way to stay far away from cancer for the rest of your life.

Include them in your meals every time you get the chance to or make yourself a delicious smoothie where you blend other detox fruit and veggies as well. For example, here’s a great green smoothie you can make at home:

#4: Beetroot

Beets are a basket of goodies for your body: vitamins B3, B6, C, beta-carotene, iron, magnesium, zinc and calcium. All these are extremely important both for detoxification and for nutrition, as well. They help your body push the toxins out and feed it with nutrients and vitamins at the same time. They also support good liver health which, as I said before, is an essential organ in the detox process.


Artichokes push the liver to function well and produce the enzymes that break down and eliminate toxins. It stimulates the production of bile, which helps your body turn contaminants into digestible material.

And on top of all that, it nourishes your body with fiber (crucial for your body’s strength and health), protein, potassium, folate, and magnesium. Can you imagine how much nutrients you get simply by adding artichokes to your salad or simply as a side dish?

#6: Olive Oil

If you really want to cleanse your liver, you can add a spoonful of olive oil to your morning hot water + lemon drink. Or to any fruit juice or smoothie you make at home. If you’ve got any gallstones you had no idea about, you can be sure they’ll be out of your body in no time.

Every time you cook, try to use olive oil instead of your regular cooking oil.

Warning: Do not use it when you cook at high heat. For example, if you’re frying something, use the regular cooking oil, because olive oil releases toxins when cooked at high heat.

Use it in salads, side dishes and in whatever other cold dish you’re making that needs oil. It’s much healthier and it will help your body push out toxins instead of just piling in on top of the existing ones.

#7: Dandelions

This may seem weird, but adding a few dandelion leaves to your salad can work miracles for your body. Dandelions are actually considered a sort of “powerhouse food” because of its high levels of nutrients and antioxidants.     I have started the mornings with a cup of warm water with fresh lemon juice squeezed in. It did make a difference in how I felt.

    Hi Alec, great advice. I’m a huge fan of lemon and olive oil too. I often mix them together with a little balsamic vinegar for a tasty salad dressing. I also use it for frying though too. What cooking oil would you recommend for use at a high heat?
